Not Inspired by a Perfectly Imperfect Rec - rec by @SOFTSHELLED's eyeballs

but I'm putting it here anyway

--I wrote this poem about travelling for my student placements. I had to drive back and forth to my shifts four times per day, twice in darkness. Early before dawn, then finally late at night back home. The only thing to look forward to on the huge hill road routes without daylight, was the sea of lights under the sprinkilings of stars from cars coming into view as I drove down ‘em. Seeing waves of more colours awaiting me and the momentary weightlessness in a machine spewin’ Co2 at the height before the fall.

--I can’t draw it, I've tried, and I can’t write words that do it justice. It was such a strange bit of relief and respite, a breath catcher that somehow caught me by surprise every time. And I’m someone who’s anti-car and cemented infrastructure y’know:

A dip into hollow where blacktop rends,
The road ahead, a ribbon descends
Night leans in, and I fall with slope,
Drawn by the view of city’s scope

Up high, the Southern Cross, no longer shy,
And below, down below, a second sky
A sea of lights, like scattered fire,
Red and gold in restless choir

Cars’ tails flicker in neon streams,
Headlights burnt into my dreams
Traffic lights blink tricolour spells,
Amber pulses, green tide fells

I’m just a passenger of cascade’s sweep,
But my eyes here see a canyon deep
In this plunge, my world unwinds,
As I drive on through to tougher times.

Disregarding Authority Haiku - rec by @SLOANE_SHARK

Fly past all their rules,
Anarchy over hive mind,
I am not a drone.
